In Cincinnati, even the
Pigs are Parrot Heads
These pigs are Parrotheads
By Rick Bird, Post music writer

It had to happen - with Jimmy Buffett making his
annual  appearance at Riverbend Music Center, the
Parrothead phenomenon has been immortalized
this summer with two decorated pigs in the Big Pig
Gig.

One is simply called ''Parrothead Pig'' from
freelance commercial artist Dave Flege, who is a
longtime Buffett fan. ''We always made our own
shirts and hats for the concerts,'' he said. ''So I
really just went to the box where I keep all the
Buffett stuff to decorate the pig.''

When Riverbend officials saw the proposed design
they immediately sponsored it.  Parrothead Pig will
be on display at Riverbend during  the Buffett
shows, then moves back to its regular location at
J.B. Fins in Newport. (It was at the Tennis Masters
Series tournament in Mason last week.) Flege said
he's made a smaller hand-held version of the pig
that Buffett will sign to be auctioned off for charity.

Another Parrothead pig was designed by students
in the art club at Mariemont High School.
''Jimmy Boar-fett'' is on display near the Eden Park
overlook. Art teacher Susie Mahan, another big
Buffett fan, proposed the idea to her students.

''They voted to do it, because they got to work with
bright colors and think of summer. When they did
it in the spring,  they were definitely thinking
summer,''  Ms. Mahan said.

Their pig sports surfer shorts with a belt that has
the inscription, ''He came down from Cincinnati ...
and he's the only pig in town,'' adapting the lyrics
from ''Fins.''
